Changes to COVID-19 Protocols

Jul. 27, 2022 — DENTON — TWU regularly reviews federal and state guidance and makes recommendations for how to best protect our campus community from health threats. The health and safety of the university community is always a top priority.

Now that we are in a more manageable phase of the pandemic, the university is continuing its gradual return to pre-pandemic operations. As of Aug. 1, 2022, the following changes will take effect:

  • Reporting of positive tests or exposures to Risk Management is no longer required and contact tracing will no longer be conducted.
  • Students, faculty and staff should handle COVID-19-related absences the same way they handle any other health-related absences.
  • Instructors are no longer required to keep a seating chart or take attendance for their courses for contact-tracing purposes.

Individuals who test positive, or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive, should follow current CDC guidelines for isolation/quarantine as summarized on the TWU Coronavirus website, as well as the treatment advice of their medical provider.

Individuals should remain diligent about protecting themselves. This includes monitoring for symptoms, isolating after a positive test, and taking other precautions depending on your personal risk factors. Risk Management will continue to monitor the situation, and the university may reimplement COVID-19 preventative measures if conditions warrant.

The best way to ensure your personal safety with regard to COVID-19 is to obtain a full course of vaccination, including booster shots. Vaccinations have been found to drastically reduce the chance of experiencing severe impacts from COVID-19 and minimize transmission of the disease. You can find vaccine options at local pharmacies and other locations from the Texas Department of State Health Services.
