Best Local-ish Spring Break Options

February 21, 2023 — Denton — Believe it or not, spring break is right around the corner! But we know that not everyone travels far, so we have a list of things you can do without breaking the bank that still gives you a measure of respite and a break from the norm.

Spring Break Camping Trip with TWU Outdoor Adventure - While it's a little farther than "local," you are among friends, so we couldn't help but include this opportunity to visit East Texas! TWU's Outdoor Adventure team will provide transportation, food, and all necessary equipment for this trip. Planned activities are hiking, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, star gazing, and fishing. Cost is $60. Sign up at the Fit & Rec soon…only three spots left!

Dallas - Take a tour of Dealey Plaza before visiting The Sixth Floor Museum. Then, expand your horizons by taking in the cityscape views at the nearby Reunion Tower GeO-Deck. You might also want to make a pilgrimage to the trendy Bishop Arts District and visit their independently-owned shops and eateries.

Fort Worth - No visit to Fort Worth is complete without visiting the historic Fort Worth Stockyards and watching the daily cattle drive at 11:30 a.m. or 4 p.m. You could also take a more artful approach to Cowtown and visit The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Kimbell Art Museum and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art

Turner Falls - Turner Falls is Oklahoma’s tallest waterfall, clocking in at 77 feet and only a 1.5-hour drive. While that’s the main attraction in the area, the surrounding landscape is full of refreshing natural pools, hiking trails, and caves to explore. You’ll want to plan your driving vacation from Dallas or Denton in the morning so that you can arrive early and enjoy the park when it’s a bit quieter.
