A new leadership role for Freeman

Sept. 6, 2024 — DENTON — TWU Student Life has announced that Tanisha Freeman will step into the role of director of the Health and Wellbeing Initiative, effective Oct. 7. This exciting development marks a significant milestone in her already impressive career with TWU.

Freeman’s contributions to the TWU community have been extensive. Previously as assistant director and director of operations for Student Health Services (SHS), she played a pivotal role in enhancing the health and wellness of our students, faculty, and staff. Some of her many achievements include:

  • Restructuring SHS Operations: Freeman successfully assisted in the reorganization of staffing within SHS, leading to more efficient and effective operations.
  • Enhancing Immunization Coverage: She partnered with state and local community agencies to boost immunization rates among the TWU community.
  • Leading COVID-19 Response Efforts: Freeman was instrumental in guiding the COVID-19 response team, effectively minimizing risks to our campus community.
  • Expanding Health Care Access: She identified and implemented strategies to improve access to health care services for students on both the Dallas and Houston campuses.

In addition to her work with SHS, Freeman has been a dedicated member of the TWU Black Faculty & Staff Affinity Group, where she has held various leadership positions, further demonstrating her commitment to the TWU community.

Freeman holds a master of business administration degree from TWU and is currently pursuing her doctorate in behavioral health at Arizona State University. 

Stephanie Brown, Ph.D., associate vice president for student enrichment, health and support, and Tanisha Freeman are working on a transition plan within Student Health Services.
