Fancher received his MA in history at the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2017 and his PhD in history at the University of North Texas in May 2023. He has written a number of book reviews and has one book in print, The Holy Warrior: Osama Bin Laden and His Jihadi Journey in the Soviet-Afghan War. He completed this peer-reviewed book while simultaneously working on a separate and unrelated topic for his doctoral dissertation at UNT. The modern Middle East is his main area of interest and a part of the world that he has studied for most of his life, especially as it relates to cultures and peoples of the Arabian Peninsula and parts of South Asia, which he has studied for 20 years.
