Panhellenic Council Recruitment FAQ
1. Who can go through Panhellenic Recruitment?
- Any undergraduate woman enrolled full time at TWU may participate in recruitment with Panhellenic. The Office of Greek Life has a minimum GPA requirement of 2.5 for membership. Some chapters may have a higher GPA requirement.
* Please note that any hours, including dual credit and your transfer GPA, will be considered instead of your high school GPA to determine eligibility.
2. What are the benefits from membership?
- Along with intangible benefits such as friendship, support, and encouragement, sorority membership offers many benefits. Each organization offers scholarships to their members. There are numerous opportunities to develop leadership and interpersonal skills through attending seminars, conferences, and holding officer and committee positions within the chapter. Collegiate involvement in one’s community sets a pattern of life-long service to others. In addition, sororities also offer a lifetime of networking with women of all ages throughout the world.
3. What kind of events does each Panhellenic sorority host?
- Activities include mixers, dances, recreational sports, and much more! Each Panhellenic sorority has a specific philanthropy that they support by hosting various community service events both locally and nationally.
4. Are academics important to sororities?
- Yes! Greek Life promotes and requires academic success. In order to remain in good standing with the Office of Greek Life, you must maintain a 2.5 minimum GPA (semester and cumulative). Some organizations’ GPA requirements are higher. Each sorority understands that academics are a student’s first priority. Individual Panhellenic sororities recognize their members for outstanding academic achievements by giving individual awards and scholarships.
5. What is the hazing policy at TWU?
- Each organization allocates significant resources to educate its members about hazing and alcohol and substance abuse. Hazing is strictly prohibited at Texas Woman’s University. Greek women strive to reach their highest potential and do not want to see any member subjected to emotional or physical harm. Hazing policies and reporting can be found on the TWU website.
6. What makes Greek Organizations different from any other club or organization?
- Greek Life is not something you do; it is something you are. Membership in a fraternity or sorority is a cherished learning experience for members with shared values and objectives. These friendships last beyond the college years and are nurtured by alumni activities and networking programs that provide opportunities for continued camaraderie, service, and personal development.
7. Are there Financial Obligations when joining and being a part of a sorority?
- When joining a sorority, financial responsibility is extremely important to every chapter on campus. The expenses of belonging to a sorority vary, and the first semester of membership is often the most expensive. The three chapters at TWU range in cost of membership and also offer different opportunities to pay these dues. All sororities offer payment plans to financially assist members. These dues that are expected from each individual are used toward different expenses including risk management and sisterhood activities. The Panhellenic Council encourages anyone interested in going through Formal Recruitment to strongly consider the importance of these financial obligations to you and your family before committing to Panhellenic membership.

- Recruitment Registration Fee
- The early registration fee for Formal Recruitment is $30. This fee covers a t-shirt and all recruitment supplies and recruitment software. You are able to pay your fee with a debit/credit card online with the registration form. Please check the main recruitment webpage for the registration deadline.

8. What are Recruitment Counselors?
- Panhellenic provides recruitment counselors to help you navigate the formal recruitment process. They are members of the Panhellenic organizations that choose to disassociate from their chapter and serve as a guide and mentor for interested women. When you register for recruitment, you will be assigned to a group that is lead by recruitment counselors. They will be there to answer any questions you have on your sorority journey!
