Hannah recognized for compassionate care
June 2, 2025 — DALLAS — The Institute for Spirituality and Health at the Texas Medical Center in Houston recognized Faheemah Hannah, DNP, with the Emma and Emily Josephine Spirituality in Nursing Award at this year’s Annual Nursing Conference.
Hannah, a College of Nursing faculty member at TWU Dallas, was nominated by Joli Blount of the Impact for Community Change.
“Dr. Hannah’s profound dedication to spiritual, emotional and physical healing makes her an outstanding nominee for the Emma and Emily Josephine Spirituality in Nursing Award,” Blount said in her nomination.
The award is given to nurses in the community who make a difference in patients’ lives.
In addition to Hannah’s role at TWU as an associate clinical professor, MSN program director and more, she also serves as a faith community nurse actively providing healing, comfort and support to families experiencing loss.
Blount touched on a particular instance in which Hannah stayed at the side of a grieving mother for an entire week as her daughter transitioned into hospice care. Despite Hannah’s demanding schedule, she provided emotional and spiritual comfort, offering respite care and unwavering support.
“It was humbling to be there for her in that way, but also rewarding as a faith community nurse,” Hannah said. “When you’re able to give back to families in need as they face crises, and you’re able to do it on a spiritual level, it’s a moving experience.”
Hannah has dedicated more than 20 years to community service through Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. where she is the regional nurse planner for Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. She has facilitated faith community nursing certification courses and continuously advocates for nurses to integrate spiritual healing into their practice.
Working in partnership with Impact for Community Change, Hannah expanded continuing education opportunities for nurses, equipping them to provide faith-based and holistic care to diverse communities.
She is also the spiritual healer for the Bill Clair Family Mortuary where she embraces a non-denominational approach to ensure that every family she serves, regardless of faith, receives compassionate care, focusing on the universal need for comfort and healing.
