Musical Theatre program trains for industry success
Texas Woman’s has added a musical theatre program that offers a strong foundation in music while offering practical training in theatre, dance and the musical theatre business itself.
The Bachelor of Music in musical theatre program, which launched in 2024, offers an accessible and transformative experience that provides students with a strong foundation in music, 21st-century training and industry placement cultivating the next generation of diverse and empowered leaders in the profession.
TWU is the only university within a 100-mile radius offering the degree.
The program is under the direction of artistic manager Julio Matos, Jr., an award-winning actor, director-choreographer, writer and coach who has mentored hundreds of actors and musical theatre performers at all stages of their careers. Matos has appeared in six Broadway shows and numerous television productions.
“Our low-cost degree option will provide students the opportunity to explore the usual courses in voice, acting and dance while also learning music technology, musical theatre entrepreneurship, and end their studies with an industry showcase where they will audition for professional agents and casting directors,” Matos said.
TWU’s 2025-26 Musical Theatre mainstage season includes Zombie Prom, Circle of Light Concert, Love & Loss: A Musical Revue, and the Musical Theatre showcase What’s Up, Broadway!
