TWU Regents approve construction for sports facility
Aug. 9, 2019 — DENTON — The Texas Woman’s University Board of Regents today authorized construction of an $11.5 million sports building to support the university’s existing soccer, softball and intramural programs as well as future competitive sports.
While still in the design phase, exact square footage and building amenities have not been finalized. However, preliminary designs include a gymnasium, batting cages, locker rooms, a team lounge, ADA-compliant restrooms, a training room, a ticket booth, a concession area, storage spaces and a classroom that will serve as a broader resource to the campus community.
The facility augments the university’s recent expansion on the eastern portion of the Denton campus. Soccer and softball fields were added within the past year.
The university plans to add synchronized swimming and stunt and will work to hire new coaches for the teams this year with the intent of starting exhibition seasons beginning in fall 2020. Future competitive sports team are still being considered as part of TWU’s strategic initiative to add more health and wellness options, support enrollment growth and enhance campus life.
TWU is also actively searching for an athletic director and has retained executive search firms College Sports Solutions (CSS) and Buffkin/Baker to assist with the search.
