D'Abrosca tapped to be next TWU student regent

May 24, 2019 — DENTON — Texas Woman’s University junior Lexi D’Abrosca has been appointed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to serve as the next student representative on the Texas Woman’s University Board of Regents. Her term expires May 31, 2020.

D’Abrosca, of Carrollton, is pursuing a degree in kinesiology, with a minor in political science and government. She is a member of the TWU Soccer team, and is the first student-athlete named to serve as the university’s student regent. She has been named to both the Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the TWU Chancellor’s List. D’Abrosca received the Dr. Bettye Myers Award at The Oakleys award ceremony in April. The award recognizes a student-athlete who is making a significant contribution to her community through her time, actions, talents, and dedication to volunteer service.

She also is a TWU Honors Scholar, and recently served on the program’s recruitment committee. She is a member of the Kinesiology Club, and served as community service chair on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

“Serving as the student regent is an opportunity to represent my fellow students,” D’Abrosca said. “My goal is to make sure the voices of the students are heard.”

D’Abrosca succeeds TWU student regent Emily Roper.

In 2005, Gov. Rick Perry signed legislation mandating that each public university board of regents include one student member. Student regents have the same powers and duties as the other members of the board, with the exceptions of voting and being counted to determine a quorum.
