TWU’s Center for Women in Business Announces Micro Grant Awardees
Dec. 6, 2018 — DENTON — Texas Woman’s University’s Center for Women in Business announced the recipients of its Women’s Enterprise Training and Micro Grant Program.
The following awardees received $5,000 each to start or expand their businesses:
- Cheryl Brown, Miracle Soul Spice, Denton
- Joan Denton, Culinary-Cures, Aledo
- Andrea Gorham, Tree Folk Farm, Denton
- Jennifer Guzman TB Winds, Denton
- Lee Ann Widyn and Lisa Moore, Denton Bridal, Denton
- Nicole Murray, That Delish Life, Richmond
- Sue Newhouse, Aunt Sue’s Barn, Hurst
- Khyra Parks, Prodigious, Inc., Denton
- Michea Rahman, Children’s Language Center, Houston
- Roxayne Strong, Code Stream Studios, Farmers Branch
Grant funding will be used for machinery, equipment or technology purchases; acquisition of new inventory or raw materials; purchase and installation of fixtures or display units; and property improvements, marketing or other business-related activity aligned with the program’s purpose. To be eligible for the award, enterprises had to be an existing or to-be-formed woman-owned, for-profit business with five or fewer employees.
Awardees were required to complete a small business training course hosted by the CWB to receive funding. The course covered topics such as business plan development, marketing, legal and accounting and financing.
“The Center for Women’s Business was proud to be able to utilize this program to support and encourage women-owned businesses in Texas to undertake new and innovative projects,” said Shannon Mantaro, director of the Center for Women in Business.
