National honor society elects TWU history professor as vice president

 

Feb. 1, 2018 – DENTON – Jacob Blosser, Ph.D., associate professor of history at Texas Woman’s University, has been elected vice president and president-elect of the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society. Blosser will serve as vice president until 2020, when he will become president of the national organization.

Phi Alpha Theta has a long tradition of electing executive leaders who combine national scholarly reputations with a strong commitment to student-centered teaching. “I am honored to have been elected vice president and look forward to leading the society into its second century of promoting academic excellence,” said Blosser.

As a representative of the organization, Blosser plans to visit chapters across the U.S. “My primary goal is to encourage student research and publication - especially at the undergraduate level.”

Blosser has served as the adviser for TWU’s Phi Alpha Theta chapter, Eta Nu, since 2007. The chapter has received the annual "Best Chapter" prize nationally for the last six years. In addition, Eta Nu’s peer-reviewed student journal, Ibid., has received the prestigious Gerald Nash Award for the best student history journal in the United States for the last three years.

Phi Alpha Theta sponsors annual academic conferences where students present their original research. Since 2008, Blosser has taken 104 TWU students to regional and national conferences across the country. Three students accompanied him to the 2018 New Orleans conference where they presented research papers.
