Sept. 14, 2020—DENTON—Texas Woman’s University has been recognized as having one of the most ethnically diverse student bodies in Texas and nationally, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2021 “Best Colleges” rankings, released today. TWU is ranked No. 1 in Texas and No. 5 nationally out of more than 1,500 regionally accredited schools evaluated.

Additionally, the university appears on the publication’s Social Mobility list for national universities, which measures graduation rates of students who received federal Pell Grants. Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduate students whose family income fall below $50,000 annually. This is the third year U.S. News has evaluated social mobility, and the first year TWU has made this list, ranking No. 129 out of all universities measured for the report.

“At Texas Woman’s, we celebrate diversity and lived experience as these are drivers for innovation; bringing new perspectives to previously intractable problems is the secret of our success,” said TWU Chancellor and President Carine M. Feyten, PhD. “Our values include opportunity and excellence because we believe all of our students deserve the best Texas Woman’s experience, one where the tools for their future success are forged.”

According to preliminary fall 2020 enrollment figures, 57% of TWU’s student population are people of color. The university is a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution, with Hispanics accounting for more than 27% of all students, Blacks accounting for 18%, and Asians more than 10%.
