April 30, 2020 — DENTON — Texas Woman’s University plans to resume classroom instruction at its three campuses beginning this fall and, starting next month, will launch a gradual phase-in to re-open the university.

The university plans to deliver online, face-to-face and hybrid instruction — including variations of the three — with health and safety as a guiding principle, Chancellor Carine M. Feyten said.

The phase-in is scheduled to begin mid-May, with some offices and facilities opening. About a quarter of the university’s faculty and staff are expected to return to campuses in Denton, Dallas and Houston by June 1, with many others expected to return on July 1.

“At a time when a new respiratory virus is still part of our reality, we will have to do things differently,” Feyten said in a message to the university community. “Above all, we will operate with greater flexibility and personal responsibility.”

The plan takes into account guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the state of Texas, and county health authorities. The plan could be adjusted at any time and units may be asked to resume remote working environments should conditions not sufficiently improve.

In mid-March, TWU students, faculty and staff at all three campuses began learning and working remotely as COVID-19 began spreading significantly across Texas.
