Audition Repertoire Requirements
Undergraduate
Instrumental
Woodwind, Brass and String applicants will prepare the following:
- Two contrasting pieces from the standard repertoire for your instrument.
Percussion applicants will prepare the following:
- One keyboard selection and One snare drum selection from the standard repertoire, OR
- Two contrasting TMEA or ATSSB All-State selections (or similar)
Vocal
Vocal applicants should prepare two contrasting pieces from vocal literature of the classical genre.
Piano
Piano applicants should prepare selections representing at least two different style periods (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century).
Mariachi
Melodia (Violin, Trumpet) applicants will prepare the following:
- A Son Jaliscience selection
- A Huapango or Huasteco selection
- A piece of your choice (can include classical repertoire)
- A vocal selection of your choice
Armonia (Arpa, Guittaron, Vihuela, Guitarra de Golpe, Guitarra) applicants will prepare the following:
- A Son Jaliscience selection
- A Huapango or Huasteco selection
- A piece of your choice (No Boleros or Rancheras) (can include classical repertoire)
- A vocal selection of your choice
NOTE - Arpa can play Rancheras as their piece of choice if they are playing melody and bass accompaniment simultaneously.
Musical Theatre
Musical Theatre applicants will prepare the following:
- Two contrasting song cuts, at least one from the musical theatre canon; the second selection may be musical theatre, pop, rock, country, R&B, operetta, or any other style that will showcase the prospective student. Please keep selections to no more than 32-bars each; and
- One short contemporary monologue (up to 90 seconds).
NOTE - Musical Theatre applicants will also participate in a dance assessment PRIOR to the start of classes.
Graduate
Auditions are required for Graduate Music Pedagogy & Music Performance applicants. Music Therapy and Music Education applicants may perform an optional audition if they wish to be considered for performance-based scholarships.
Instrumental
