Yi Liu
Adjunct instructor, piano
Yi Liu is an adjunct instructor teaching piano classes at Texas Woman's University, and teaches group classes and private lessons at University of North Texas College of Music. He serves as the accompanist for vocal and instrumental students at TWU and UNT. He has taught since 2019 at UNT, where he instructs undergraduate students majoring in instrumental performance, jazz, music education and music concentration.
Devoted to the future of piano pedagogy, Yi has presented lectural recitals in the US and China. He has performed internationally at concert halls in New York, Boston, Colorado, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Salzburg and Texas as solo and collaborative pianist. He was the first-prize recipient at competitions including the International Keyboard Odyssiad in 2019, the UNT Concerto Competition in 2020 and the Isabel Scionti Piano Competition in 2021.
He performed in the Mozart 150th Memorial Concert Series at Shanghai Symphony Hall and performed in the Beethoven 250th Celebration Series Concerts at Murchison Performing Arts Center Winspear Performance Hall. His chamber group, “Fenway Quartet,” was the second-prize recipient of the 2017 Chamber Music Division of the 4th ENKOR International Music Competition. His solo and chamber music recordings were posted on the classical music Facebook channel “Le Salon de la Musique." Musicians he worked with includes Caleb Hudson, Fedor Malykhin, Hengjian Su, Jin Zhou, Keith Packman, Kimberly Cole Luevano, Isaac Kim, Katie Lansdale, Lila Brown, Minju Lee, Nathaniel Taylor, Qi Wang, Rhonda Rider, Yu-hong Sun and Zoltan Csikos. His principal teachers include Adam Wodnicki, Cheung-Yu Mo, Yi-Qiang Sun, Zhen-Yu Dong and Ya-Fei Chuang, with whom he attended the prestigious Salzburg Mozarteum International Summer Music Festival with a scholarship in 2016. He lead the UNT Center Piano Trio since 2019.
