Kara McBain
Adjunct Instructor of Music
Kara has years of teaching experience with students of all ages, backgrounds, styles, and talents. She began teaching in Missouri and has since been teaching in Texas where she is a Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas. She teaches private voice at the collegiate level while also teaching voice methods to undergraduate music education students. She has extensive performance experience in opera, recital, musical theatre, pop, songwriting, early music, and choral singing. She is passionate about her students’ progress and success as developing singers and hopes to instill the love and knowledge of music to the young musicians of the future.
Recently, Kara has been seen gracing the oratorio stage as the soprano soloist in performances of Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass with the Missouri State University Symphony Orchestra, Brahms’ Requiem with the Dallas Symphony Chorus, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella with the Lewisville Lake Symphony, Handel’s Messiah with the Dallas Bach Society, and the premiere performance of University of North Texas student composer PJ Mooney’s new oratorio work titled Requiem for a Poisoned Earth.
Mrs. McBain was the 2022 winner of the Mary Prudie Brown Award from the National Federation of Music Clubs, won first place in the 2021 Texoma NATS competition, was a finalist in the 2021 Colorado Bach Ensemble Young Artist Competition, and won first prize in the 2021 GCC Series “Best Handel Performance.”
Kara currently studies at the University of North Texas in the Doctor of Musical Arts program with Dr. Carol Wilson, majoring in Vocal Performance with a related field in Vocal Pedagogy. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, she earned her Bachelor of Music summa cum laude from Missouri State University in 2020 and received her Master of Music in 2022 from the University of North Texas.
