Kairu Mitchell

Kairu Mitchell is a double bassist from Richmond, Virginia. His journey as a musician began when he was 11 as he discovered the double bass for the first time. What started as a hobby became a necessity in Kairu’s life, as he looks forward to pursuing a career and hopes to immerse himself in various genres of music and apply them to the double bass.

Mitchell's path as a musician led him to in-depth musical training, including private lessons, instruction from his former principal bassist of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra Andrew Sommer, and masterclasses with world-renowned double bassists Joseph Conyers and Xavier Foley. He has been involved in other musical endeavors such as participating in the University of North Texas' double bass masterclasses instructed by world-renowned double bassist and professor Jeff Bradetich, performing side-by-side with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, studying at Sewanee's Summer Music Festival in Tennessee and being a part of Classical Revolution RVA.

Mitchell studies with Jose Saavedra Diaz at TWU for his Master of Music in Double Bass Performance.
