Profile

Julio Agustin (professional name) is an award-winning actor, director-choreographer, author/writer, vocal coach, and career consultant. He has held full-time academic and leadership positions at The City College of New York, Western Connecticut State University, James Madison University, and Elon University prior to his current position as Artistic Manager of Musical Theatre at Texas Woman’s University. He has performed in six Broadway musicals – Chicago (“Fred Casely”), Fosse (original company), Bells Are Ringing revival (“Carl”), Steel Pier, Never Gonna Dance, and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (“Ambite”) and was most recently on stage as “Dr. Jorge Mendoza” in Karen Zacarías’ play Destiny of Desire @ The Old Globe, and in the ensemble of Waitress at The Dallas Theatre Center. He is the author of The Professional Actor’s Handbook: From Casting Call to Curtain Call, 2nd edition (Rowman & Littlefield). Award nominations for directing and choreography include Audelco Award, Best Director (La Dulce Caridad, a Latina adaptation of Sweet Charity @ New Haarlem Arts Theatre, NYC); Syracuse Area Live Theatre, Best Choreographer (In the Heights @ Hangar Theatre); and Houston Press, Best Choreographer (Guys and Dolls @ Theatre Under the Stars).
