Profile
John Norine Jr. is an accomplished musician, conductor and theatrical designer specializing in lighting and sound. He currently serves as the Technical Production Specialist at TWU. Previously, he was artistic associate at the Fort Salem Theater, where he worked as a technical director, designer and music director. Norine also works with the Denton Dance Conservatory as a technical director and stage manager.
As a conductor and music director, Norine has led performances for theatrical productions at the educational, community and professional level in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and the Capitol region of New York State. When not conducting, Norine can also be found in the orchestra pit, where he regularly performs on cello.
In addition to his on (or under) stage work, he has several credits as an arranger and orchestrator. In 2005, he created a new orchestration of Paul Kletzki's Piano Concerto, op. 22 for a recording by pianist Joseph Banowetz on the Naxos label, which as nominated for a Grammy Award in 2010 (Best Instrumental Soloist with Orchestra). His most recent project was writing arrangements and orchestrations for the 2024 world premiere of Come On, Get Tappy! in Seattle, WA.
Norine 's conducting mentors include Anshel Brusilow, Clay Couturiaux, Christopher Lanz and Michael Jinbo. He studied orchestration and arranging with Cindy McTee at UNT and Paul Siskind at SUNY Potsdam. Originally from Utica, NY, he currently lives in Denton with his wife Olivia, and their small menagerie of pets.
