Garyn Manghera
Graduate Assistant
Garyn has been enrolled in piano lessons since the age of seven and has continued to study the piano ever since. Leading up to their formal music education, Garyn participated in several TMTA music festivals and theory exams. At Texas Woman’s University (TWU), Garyn earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Piano Performance) degree in May 2023. During their undergraduate studies at TWU, Garyn performed in several piano recitals, including both junior and senior recitals, playing works by Beethoven, Mozart, J.S. Bach, and Debussy, among others. They have also participated in several masterclasses taught by guest professors including Dr. Jeff Lankov of New York University and Dr. Gabriel Dobner of Texas State University. Currently, Garyn is continuing their education in music by pursuing a Master of Music with an Emphasis in Music Pedagogy at the same university. Alongside their continued education, Garyn currently works as a graduate assistant for Dr. Daniel Milan and Dr. Richard Shuster in Keyboard Musicianship courses I-III.
In July 2023, Garyn traveled to Italy to participate in the Interharmony International Music Festival, where they attended several concerts of chamber music, solo piano music, and orchestra music. There they also performed the first movement of the Piano Sonata in D Major Op. 10 No. 3 by Beethoven, as well as the first and third movements of Bagatelles Op. 47 by Dvorak; a chamber piece for piano, two violins, and cello.
Garyn’s piano teaching background involves over seven years of experience in teaching private, individual piano lessons for a wide range of ages (from 4 y/o and beyond) to students in their homes. Garyn is familiar with teaching both first-time beginner students as well as beginner and intermediate transfer students and is equipped to cater to the needs of both. They are also familiar with both in-person and online teaching platforms, having dealt with the sudden shift to online learning during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Garyn strives to demonstrate patience and understanding when it comes to the learning needs of each student. They take an individual approach in addressing the needs and learning outcomes of each and every student they teach in order to create the most ideal learning experience. It is important to Garyn that students not only feel comfortable in expressing themselves musically, but that they are also able to address concerns and questions at any point during their lessons, and that they are heard and understood when such concerns and questions arise. It is also important to Garyn that students fully enjoy and embrace their music making and are driven to achieve their pianistic and musical goals.
