Bio

Della Molloy-Daugherty, PhD, MT-BC, is an Assistant Professor of Music Therapy and the Coordinator of TWU's Music Therapy Program. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate music therapy courses and oversees the internship training portion of the program. Prior to her faculty appointment at TWU, she worked as a music therapist for over 25 years in pediatrics, burn rehabilitation, sub-acute neurological rehabilitation, and special education - children with visual impairments or blindness, and additional disabilities.

Della studied at the University of Kansas, receiving her BME in Music Education - Music Therapy in 1993, and her MME in Music Education - Music Therapy in 1997. She then completed her interdisciplinary Ph.D., Music Education/Music Therapy and Cognitive Psychology, at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, in 2013. Her dissertation topic was Rhythmic Auditory-Motor Entrainment of Gait Patterns in Adults with Blindness or Severe Visual Impairment.

Della has published in Music Therapy Perspectives, the Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, and the Visual Rehabilitation Journal. She has also written book chapters about music therapy in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as well as music therapy for students with visual impairment and severe and multiple disabilities. 

Della serves on the Competency Review Task Force for the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). She has served AMTA in various other capacities related to advocacy, government relations, and internship training. She has trained in and has been a Fellow in Neurologic Music Therapy (2004-2017), and is a current member of AMTA and Pi Kappa Lambda Kappa Omicron Chapter.
