Amanda St. Germain-Sehr
Visiting Assistant Professor, Music Therapy
Amanda St. Germain-Sehr, MS, MA, LPC, MT-BC (she/her) is a licensed professional counselor and a board-certified music therapist. Professor St. Germain-Sehr is an alumna of Texas Woman’s University and received both her master’s in counseling and master’s in music therapy degrees from TWU. Professor St. Germain-Sehr has over thirteen years of clinical experience in counseling and music therapy working with a broad range of diverse client communities across the lifespan, including children in a domestic violence emergency shelter; juvenile offenders in a residential treatment facility; adolescents in foster care; adolescents and adults in a behavioral health hospital; adults with intellectual disabilities in a university clinic; adults in neurological rehabilitation settings; at-risk and unhoused adults in an emergency shelter; LGBTGEQIAP+ adults in support group and private practice settings; adults in grief support groups; and older adults in memory care and community settings.
Professor St. Germain-Sehr has multiple publications in music therapy and counseling literature and has provided over 30 professional presentations related to her research interests in LGBTGEQIAP+ issues; grief and loss; burnout and self-care; professional development issues in counseling and music therapy; and transpersonal perspectives in counseling and music therapy. In addition to working as the Music Therapy Clinical Training Coordinator at TWU, Professor St. Germain-Sehr also maintains a part-time private practice working with adult clients with mental health concerns and is currently completing a doctorate in counselor education and supervision. She is also a member of several music therapy and counseling professional organizations and is currently serving as an assembly of delegates alternate with the Southwestern region of the American Music Therapy Association and president-elect of Texas Counselors for Social Justice, a division of the Texas Counseling Association.
