Myra Crownover, Former Texas House Representative

The Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership at Texas Woman’s University has selected Myra Crownover, former member of the Texas House of Representatives, as the recipient of its 2025 Distinguished Public Service Award, honoring her exceptional record of leadership and service in both business and government.

An accomplished businesswoman with experience in banking, real estate, and energy, Crownover went on to represent District 64 in the Texas House of Representatives for 16 years. During her tenure, she chaired the Committee on Public Health, served as Vice Chair of the Energy Resources Committee, was a member of the powerful Calendars Committee, and played a pivotal role as a lead House negotiator on the state budget. She was also recognized for advancing critical public health initiatives including expanding newborn screening for genetic disorders that has saved the lives of thousands of Texans since expanded screening took effect. Her work in public health has earned honors from organizations such as the March of Dimes and the American Heart Association.

Her work has been instrumental in shaping policy, fostering collaboration, and expanding opportunities for Texans. As a legislator, she led efforts in health, education, and energy that continue to strengthen communities across the state. Beyond her policy achievements, Crownover’s career reflects the profound impact of women in elected office and public service, demonstrating how leadership can empower others, open doors for future generations, and inspire more women to step forward and serve.
