Family Weekend is the first big event for students and their families of the year! It will be a weekend full of fun, food and tradition!

During your visit, you will have the opportunity to interact with the University’s faculty and staff, take a day to explore the city of Denton, or cheer on one of our outstanding TWU Pioneer teams! Regardless of what you choose to do during your time at Family Weekend, we hope that you will carve out time to reconnect with your student and find out what TWU means to them.

Family Weekend Schedule

Friday, October 4

Time Event
6 a.m.-10 p.m. Fitness & Recreation Open 
Fitness & Recreation Center 
Enjoy a cardio or weight workout while you are visiting for the weekend. Free admission with your Family Weekend wristband (ages 18+).
8 a.m.-4 p.m. TWU Bookstore Open
Student Union at Hubbard Hall, 1st Floor 
Grab some Pioneer gear for your family at the TWU Bookstore. 
10 a.m.-Noon Dental Hygiene Program Open House
Jones Hall
Bring your family and friends to Jones Hall and get a tour of our new dental hygiene clinic as well as information about the services provided by the Dental Hygiene students.
3-4 p.m. Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences Open House
Scientific Research Commons (SRC) Building, Room 321
Join Dr. Kathleen Davis as she leads a presentation, “Eating for Energy Today and Disease Prevention Tomorrow.”

Led by Drs. Dayna Averitt and Nasrin Mirsaleh Kohan, stop by for a tour of the Scientific Research Commons and see where your student learns!

Dr. Aimee Myers will discuss “Weaving the Fabric of Shared Experience: Visual Testimonio as Pedagogy for Immigrant and Refugee Students.”

3-5 p.m. Center for First-Generation Students Open House
Student Union at Hubbard Hall, Suite 1600 
Drop by at this come-and-go event and meet the TWU staff who work in the Center for First-Generation Students. If your student is first-gen, this is THE place where they can find help, resources and a friendly face.
3-5 p.m. Career Connections Open House
Woodcock Hall, Suite 200 
Stop by and check out the options available to your student! Refreshments and all career counselors will be on-site to greet families and answer your questions. 
3:45 p.m. College of Nursing Open House
Student Union at Hubbard Hall, Room 1200 
Nursing faculty member, Dr. Kristine Morris presents “Toward Population Representation: A State-Level Examination of Nursing Degree Completions 2005-2020.”
4-6 p.m. Check-In & Registration

After checking in, meet and mingle with TWU staff, students and alumni. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served.
4:30-5 p.m. School of Health Promotion and Kinesiology Open House

For all of the golf fans, join Dr. Young-Hoo Kwon as he showcases his motion capture lab and golf research!
6-8 p.m. Magical Family Feud
Student Union at Hubbard Hall Bridges Auditorium

6 p.m. TWU Concert Choir & Chamber Singers
Margo Jones Performance Hall
Music study at TWU has a long and distinguished history. While you are on campus, come enjoy our concert choir and chamber singers. $10 general admission, $5 students/seniors, free for children under 12.
8:30 p.m. Ghost Tour
Meet at Student Union at Hubbard Hall Front Steps - east side  
Join our student leaders to learn the history behind TWU’s most beloved haunts. Sponsored by Pioneer Ambassadors.

Denton Community Market is a producer-only art and farmer’s market in downtown Denton. It feature’s live music, kids activities, local farms, local artists, food trucks, food vendors and more!
9 a.m.-2 p.m. TWU Bookstore Open (SUHH, 1st Floor) 
Grab some Pioneer gear for your family at the TWU Bookstore.
9 a.m.-8 p.m. Blagg Huey Library Open
Check out all the library has to offer! Explore our cookbook collection, the Clarabel Tanner Collection of Children’s Book Art, the Lou Halsell Rodenberger Woman’s Collection and more, including our special exhibit Portraying Chronic Illness in Aging Adults!
10 a.m.-11 p.m. Denton Arts and Jazz Festival
Quakertown Park
The Denton Arts & Jazz Festival has grown into one of the largest tourist attractions in North Texas and remains Denton’s signature event. Check out their website for more details dentonjazzfest.com.

Family Barbeque

TWU Gardens in front of Fit & Rec 
Join us for gentle morning yoga and ease into the perfect way to wake up the mind and body. This practice will be accessible for everyone, so feel free to come even if you’re a novice. Mats will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothing.
10-11 a.m. Weekend Chapel Service
Little Chapel in-the-Woods 
Take a moment to reflect in a non-denominational time of fellowship and community with your student. Lead by TWU’s own Shannon Taylor, Ed.D.
10 a.m.-Midnight Blagg Huey Library Open
