Biography
Dr. Jerry Ausburn has over 30 years of experience in the field of education with over 27 years in K-12 public schools and 8 plus years in higher education working with doctoral organizational and educational leadership students, master’s educational leadership students, and undergraduate first-year students as well. Throughout his career he has enjoyed many opportunities to support diverse school communities as an assistant superintendent leading curriculum and instruction, state and federal programs, student services, assessment and accountability, professional development, new teacher orientation, substitute teacher training, and media relations. He has also served as a high school principal and assistant principal, elementary principal and assistant principal, science instructional specialist, science, health, and physical education teacher, coach, regional education service center education specialist, and educational consultant. Dr. Ausburn recently served public schools during the 2020 Covid-19 crisis by using his extensive experience in online education to deliver high school science curriculum to students as well as preparing future educators through a teaching and training program for P-TECH early college high school students seeking to become teachers and future educational leaders. During his administrative leadership and faculty teaching experiences in higher education he has enjoyed working with both doctoral and master’s level graduate students across the nation and internationally serving as Assistant Provost of Education Professions and Assistant Dean of Faculty Engagement/Programs leading the departments of leadership and administration, teaching and learning, and professional education studies in a large online institution. He also served as the featured guest lecturer in many video presentations for organizational and educational leadership programs, led annual commencement ceremonies, led faculty council meetings, and has facilitated national program advisory council meetings working with many external stakeholders across the nation to improve educational leadership programs as well as complying with challenging accreditation requirements. Dr. Ausburn continues to serve higher education as a professor currently working primarily online with master’s and doctoral level students seeking to become campus principals, district superintendents, or organizational leaders, as well as supervising student teachers across the nation, chairing numerous doctoral dissertations, designing and facilitating professional development and coaching/mentoring for teachers and administrators, and working with first-year college students to ensure a quality first-year experience for supporting higher retention and graduation rates.
