Biography
Alexanadra (Ale) Babino, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Multilingual and Multicultural Studies (MMS) master’s program at Texas Woman’s University. Over the last 19 years, she's won multiple awards for her teaching and research in bilingual and literacy education. Most recently, the MMS was recognized by Excelencia in Education (2024) as one of the top three master’s programs for Latino student success. The Texas Council for Teachers of English Language Arts (2024) also named her as the University Teacher of the Year. In 2016, her dissertation won a first-place distinction by the National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE), where she was also recognized with an early career reviewer award by the Bilingual Research Journal in 2019. Across her roles, she’s most interested in how (emergent) bilinguals and their teachers become biliterate and bicultural to varying degrees across contexts, with an emphasis on dual language and teacher preparation programs. While she's held many titles over the years, at heart she'll always be a maestra that teaches with cariño and de todo corazón.
