Biography
Elif Isik, Ph.D., RN, is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing on the Houston campus. She is teaching NURS4111 Community Health Competencies Clinical, NURS4091 Concept of Pediatric Nursing Clinical and teaching NURS3612 Introduction to Research in Nursing. Her specialty area is community/public health and pediatric health nursing and she supervises students in the community and pediatric clinical settings. She worked in the emergency room, labor/delivery unit, postpartum unit, and a public school system as a nurse. Her research areas include children and adolescents with special health care needs, self-management, physical and behavioral health of children and adolescents. She had numerous awards for her dissertation study including Chancellor's Student Research Scholar, Doctoral Research Grant, internal small grants, and Outstanding Doctoral Students recognition STTI, Beta Beta Chapter. Her dissertation publication earned the Southern Nursing Research Society D Jean Wood award and her poster was awarded first place among Top 10 Student Poster Award at Southern Research Nursing Society (SNRS) annual conference. She received an internal research funding STTI Lucile Petry research grant for her current project. Dr. Isik's project, titled "Asthma Self-Management Behaviors and Cognitive Autonomy: Developing an Adolescent Questionnaire," was awarded funding by the NIH/NHLBI under the R15 mechanism. She is a member in many professional organizations and she actively engages in their organizational activities and conferences.
