Biography
Dr. Suzanne Burns is Assistant Professor in the School of Occupational Therapy in Denton, Texas. She received her B.S. degree in Nutrition/Dietetics and M.O.T. in Occupational Therapy at the University of New Mexico. She completed her Ph.D. in Occupational Therapy at Texas Woman's University and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Disparities in Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke.
Clinically, Dr. Burns specializes in acquired brain injury rehabilitation in the context of the community. Her research foci are two-fold: (1) participation in context for adults with mild stroke, and in particular, the interplay between post-stroke executive dysfunction and the lived environment, and (2) leveraging mobile technology to mitigate health and participation disparities in persons with disabilities. Dr. Burns currently serves as a PI on a NIDILRR sub-award focused on testing Access Ratings for Buildings (AR-B), a suite of apps for promoting accessibility in the community for people with disabilities.
