Biography

Martin S. Rice, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA is Professor and Director for the Occupational Therapy Program at Texas Woman's University’s Denton Campus. Dr. Rice received his PhD in Exercise and Sport Science with and emphasis in Motor Learning and Control from the Pennsylvania State University, where earlier, he also received his Bachelor of Science degree. He received his Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from the Western Michigan University. Dr. Rice’s research interests involve investigating motor learning and motor control research paradigms on normal and special populations in regard to occupational therapy. Specific focus is on testing motor learning and motor control strategies that promote enhanced learning and efficient movement dynamics with respect to therapeutic occupation. In addition, he has an interest in investigating aspects of “meaning” and its influence upon human movement and behavior. Lastly, he is interested in safe patient handling issues including required forces and upon caregivers during patient repositioning and transfers via manual techniques and mechanical lift systems.
