Biography
Cynthia A. Warren, PhD is a Professor of Food and Nutrition Sciences at Texas Woman’s University in Denton. She has extensive experience working in diverse learning environments promoting nutritious foods to children and thier parents and families. As the Project Coordinator for the U SDA-FNS funded Whole Grain Pilot Projects (Phase I and II), she developed and implemented studies on whole grains in the National School Lunch Program to increase their consumption in 42 U.S. states and Puerto Rico. For a USDA-NIFA funded project, Dr. Warren developed single concept training videos in English and Spanish designed to decrease foodborne illness and allergic reactions to foods in independently owned restaurants. In addition, Dr. Warren has provided expertise on nutrition prevention measures for low-income, low-literacy individuals utilized in a cancer genomics training program for Texas Health Educators funded by a TX CPRIT grant. Her current research focuses on nutrition and food literacy in Head Start schools in Tarrant county using food group books based on MyPlate developed by Dr. Warren and her doctoral student. Dr. Warren serves as the Director of the Research Chef’s Association’s Culinology® program at Texas Woman’s University, Denton, one of nineteen programs globally.
