Biography

My first experience teaching in higher education was at Tarrant County College in 2001. This experience opened my eyes to an alternative career in dental hygiene, and I found my true passion, dental hygiene education. It motivated me to advance my education, and I started on a new journey sculpting the minds of young oral healthcare professionals. I completed a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene and a Master of Science in Health Studies with a focus on higher education.
In 2009 I was offered an adjunct faculty position in TWU’s Dental Hygiene Program, and I fell in love with the faculty and students. In 2014 I started full-time as an Assistant Clinical Professor and the Senior Clinic Coordinator, and in 2017 I became an Associate Clinical Professor and the program director. With the professional relationships I formed. Through many opportunities and experiences, I have expanded and enriched my knowledge and skills to new heights.
The opportunities I have gained through teaching, scholarship, and service are more than I ever thought I would have accomplished when I started this journey. With strong mentors and friends, I have grown in many ways.
I have maintained my clinical license to practice dental hygiene since graduating in 1993, and I utilize that license in practice when time allows. I have maintained an excellent work relationship with practicing oral health professionals, and I feel it is essential as a clinical educator to keep up with clinical skills.
As I start my sixth year in this position and look back on the last several years, I am amazed by how much I have learned as an educator and a clinician.
I will continue to grow as an educator and expand my knowledge through teaching, scholarship, and service to my profession.
I am thankful for all these opportunities and look forward to many more.
