Research Compliance

Faculty conducting or supervising students conducting research involving the use of human subjects, animals, or recombinant DNA and biohazardous agents must seek appropriate University approvals before beginning the research project. The Institutional Review Boards (IRB) (Denton, Dallas, Houston) have the responsibility of review and approval of all research involving the use of human subjects; the IRB, not the faculty member or the student's research committee, determines whether an application is exempt from further review. Compliance with federal guidelines involving the care and use of vertebrate animals is the responsibility of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) (Denton). Approval of projects using recombinant DNA or biohazardous agents is given by the Institutional Biosafety Committee (Denton only).
