TWU welcomes future educators to campus
In partnership with the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE), TWU will host students from school districts in local counties on Saturday, Dec. 7 for the Area 10 Conference.
Area 10 includes Cooke, Denton, Erath, Hood, Johnson, Palo Pinto, Parker, Somervell, Tarrant and Wise counties.
“We are thrilled to host this year's conference. The impact of this event reaches far beyond its immediate scale,” said COPE Associate Dean Gina Anderson, EdD. “Hosting around 1,000 high school students across the north Texas region, this conference demonstrates TWU's commitment to public education and the cultivation of a talented and passionate teaching workforce that will impact the success of future generations of families, students, and communities.”
Students in attendance will experience a college fair and compete in teaching, lesson planning, communication and leadership. They will also attend breakout sessions to prepare them to pursue a degree, and ultimately a career, in education. The day will start with an address from TWU Chancellor Carine M. Feyten, PhD.
In addition, students will receive campus tours, TWU swag and COPE is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a TAFE high school senior who chooses to continue their education preparation at TWU.
“Our EPP has a long-standing record of success and is well-known for teacher candidate exam pass rates, a variety of high-quality, clinical practice options, innovative partnerships with school districts, and success and retention in the field post-graduation,” Anderson said. “We are looking forward to providing a heartfelt welcome, hospitality and event support.”
