COPE partnership with Denton ISD yields award

March 7, 2023 — DENTON — The Denton Independent School District and the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has awarded the Texas Woman’s College of Professional Education (COPE) the Stand Up for Texas Public Schools Award.

“It is due to the work of so many along with our long-lasting relationship with Denton ISD through grants, professional development, partnerships, and more that made this award possible,” COPE Dean Lisa Huffman, PhD, said. “It is truly a team effort across the college to be in our community for our community.”

The award, presented on Feb. 28, recognizes businesses and organizations that make a difference in the lives of public school students.

COPE partnered with Denton ISD to use more than $4 million in grants to improve the experience for dual-language students.

“We have a long, rich history with Denton ISD. We’re both very committed to the success of teachers to support our thriving and growing community,” said COPE Associate Dean Gina Anderson, EdD.

Former TWU student Julieta Gallardo, a current second-grade bilingual teacher at Alexander Elementary, praised Texas Woman’s for the impact it had on her career.

“I will never have enough words in my mouth to thank [TWU] for all of the knowledge that [it] gave me to become the teacher that I am now.”
