News of campus vandalism

Dear Texas Woman’s Community,

I was saddened to learn early today that the beautiful Your Dream, Your Legacy mural at the corner of Third and Oakland Streets was vandalized overnight. It was a criminal act, and TWU police are investigating.

Visual Arts professor Giovanni Valderas and his students completed the mural last December as part of a public art course. I am committed to restoring the mural, which is an homage to Texas Woman’s University, the City of Denton, and the strength of our multicultural community.

The Visual Arts faculty, staff, and students are planning to partner with Marketing and Communication in hosting a community restoration event. They will send out more details to the Denton community once the plans come together.

Public art can humanize and invigorate public spaces, and it gives voice to the community. I look forward to seeing more public art as our campuses grow and evolve. Thank you to all the artists who contribute to building our Texas Woman’s culture and reflecting our pioneering spirit.

With hope and gratitude,

Carine M. Feyten, Ph.D.
Chancellor and President
