Thanksgiving holidays...staying fluid and flexible
Dear Colleagues:
I hope this message finds you well as we wind down this Thursday and the first day of November’s quarterly meeting of the Texas Woman’s Board of Regents.
As we approach Thanksgiving, I wanted to remind you that our fall academic calendar has not changed. We plan for classes on our campuses to resume following the Thanksgiving holidays and continue in their current formats through the end of the semester. Additionally, our spring semester is scheduled to start as planned on Jan. 11, and we are still planning to hold spring break March 8-12.
I am aware that at least one media outlet may have reported information about North Texas area schools that does not apply to Texas Woman’s—so I encourage everyone to check our COVID website for official Texas Woman’s information. We update that site regularly and, when important changes occur, we advise all members of our community and immediately post the information on our official COVID site.
As an update to all of you, I would like to share that there have been no confirmed COVID-19 cases transmitted in our classroom settings. We attribute this to several preventative measures, including using larger classrooms to add more space between students and faculty and requiring face coverings. I applaud all of you—our students, faculty, and staff—who have demonstrated exceptional adherence to these measures.
The typical manner in which COVID-19 cases have been transmitted within the Texas Woman’s community is consistent with the experience of other universities and school districts—that is, confirmed cases generally have been linked to social gatherings in which distancing and masking guidance were not followed. Fortunately for us, the number of positive and presumptive positive cases have been significantly below average compared with other higher education institutions.
We continue to closely monitor the impact this pandemic has had on the university’s community and operations, and we are prepared to make adjustments if conditions change. Again, we will make you immediately aware of any changes and post them on our official COVID site.
In closing, I share with you the recent guidance the Centers for Disease Control has provided to help ensure a safe Thanksgiving break. I look forward to having everyone back after the holiday!
With warm regards,
Carine M. Feyten, Ph.D.
Chancellor and President
