Message to Students - COVID-19 (March 12, 12:01 p.m.)

Dear Students,

I know many of you are concerned about the news surrounding the ever-evolving COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation. I want to take this opportunity to let you know about some important modifications in TWU’s operations in response to the virus.

For the past several weeks, we have monitored the situation closely and have worked to minimize the impact to our campuses and our students. As additional cases of the virus are diagnosed in Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth in particular, we will be implementing additional social distancing measures. We are moving forward with the following actions:

• We will extend spring break with classes resuming on Monday, March 23. We may modify delivery at that time, possibly to online.
• TWU’s campuses will remain open during the spring break extension and normal business operations and services will continue. We will use the time to prepare for further action, if necessary.
• We recognize that many TWU students make residence halls their home, so our residential halls will remain open.
• Campus services, including dining, health and counseling services, and other facilities will be open. However, some hours of operation may be modified.
• We plan to generally limited events to essential workers, families and students choosing to remain on campus. Planned events will be reviewed based on a number of risk factors, and organizers will determine the best course of action on a case-by-case basis.

Implementing social distancing measures will help us slow the spread of the virus while supporting your educational goals. These modifications are in keeping with recommendations from regional, national and international health organizations. Additionally, many universities in Texas and nationwide are making similar modifications.

We are committed to ensuring the safety of our TWU community and will continue to keep you informed through your email and on the web. 

Please continue to support one another and follow the guidelines we sent in previous email messages—wash your hands, often, etc. Travel sensibly, if necessary, and heed warnings. Since this situation is continuing to evolve, please look for the latest information on the Texas Woman’s and the CDC websites.
