TWU Emergencies / Pioneer Alert September 30 2014

Important message about University Emergencies / Pioneer Alert

Sept. 30, 2014

Dear TWU Community,

I know you join me and the TWU Cabinet in expressing our deepest sympathies to our colleagues at NCTC due to the bus accident involving their softball team. In light of this recent tragedy, I want to remind you about TWU emergency alert procedures and how you will receive messages during a university emergency.

All university students, faculty and staff are part of the TWU Pioneer Alert System, as per TEXAS EDUCATION CODE Sec. 51.218. As a TWU student, faculty or staff, you are automatically signed up to receive Pioneer Alerts.

The Pioneer Alert system notifies students, faculty, and staff on individual campuses with immediate emergency information by the following methods:

Text message
Personal Telephone
Personal E-mail
Campus computer.
Also, the University home page at www.twu.edu will have current and detailed information in an emergency. The University’s official social media sites at www.facebook.com/TexasWomansUniversity and @twunews on Twitter will have updates and will direct you to the website. The University also has hotlines in place to call for updates:

Denton 940-898-3430

Dallas 214-689-6631

Houston 713-794-2310
In addition, the Pioneer Alert System is tested monthly. If you have not received test alerts, I encourage you to visit www.twu.edu/dps/pioneer-alert/ to ensure that the university has your current contact information. Planning before an emergency happens is the best way to be prepared for one.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!
