Wishing President Monica Christopher a warm farewell

Dear Colleagues,

In the closing moments of Wicked, there is a lyric that lingers long after the curtain falls: “Because I knew you, I have been changed for good.” That line feels especially fitting as we reflect on the impact Monica Christopher has had on Texas Woman’s University Dallas—and on our university system as a whole.

I write today to share that Monica has accepted a new role as chief philanthropy officer at the Meadows Foundation. Her last day at TWU will be Friday, February 13, 2026.

In just two years, Monica helped TWU Dallas take remarkable strides forward in extending our distinctive mission within one of the nation’s most dynamic cities. She brought clarity, momentum, and heart to the work of building TWU Dallas as a place of academic excellence and community, where the potential for growth feels, well, unlimited.

During her tenure, Monica launched the Dallas President’s Leadership Council, creating a new philanthropic chapter focused on advancing the evolving TWU Dallas mission. She championed academic growth and expansion, setting bold aspirations through a new campus strategic plan. She strengthened the sense of community at TWU Dallas by cultivating traditions and celebrating milestones, including the establishment of a Dallas-designated commencement ceremony. She also led with vision and care in advancing innovation, including the creation of TWU Ventures—an academic-mission-adjacent effort designed to offer short-term credentials, diversify institutional revenue, and provide faculty with a helpful structure for their entrepreneurism. In addition, she had a hand in shepherding the naming gift for the Mike A. Myers Stroke Center, a milestone that reflects both deep philanthropy and profound impact.

I can think of no one better to have led TWU Dallas through this important chapter of transformation. I am extraordinarily grateful for Monica’s service, leadership, and belief in what TWU Dallas can become. While I am personally sad to see her move on, I also know that philanthropy has long been central to her life’s work. When the Meadows Foundation presented her with this leadership opportunity, it felt both fitting and right. Her heart will always be tied to TWU Dallas, and we will always be grateful for the growth launchpad she helped build.

We will share more information about the search for a new Dallas campus president later. In the interim, Christopher Johnson will assume leadership responsibilities for TWU Dallas within his role as vice chancellor for strategy and chief of staff. Monica often referred to him as her “sherpa” during her transition into higher education, and the two have worked closely as co-leaders in shaping strategy and vision. This continuity will allow us to carry forward the plans and momentum she so thoughtfully set in motion.

Please join me in thanking Monica Christopher for her exceptional service and in supporting Christopher Johnson as we move through this transition together. I am confident in the strength of our community and grateful for the care, professionalism, and commitment you bring to Texas Woman’s every day.
