Happy May Day

Dear TWU Faculty and Staff,

Happy May Day!

In my home country of Belgium, May 1 is both a celebration of workers and a day marked by a cherished tradition: the sharing of Lily of the Valley.

This delicate flower is said to symbolize happiness and good fortune, and my mother never missed a year in sending me a small bouquet—or later, an image of one—on May Day, no matter where I was in the world. It was a simple gesture, but one that always reminded me of the quiet beauty in honoring those whose daily efforts make life and community better.

As I think of that tradition today, I find myself reflecting on each of you.

Like those small white blooms, many of the contributions that sustain a university are not always flashy or loudly celebrated. They are found in steady service, thoughtful care, daily persistence, and the countless acts—seen and unseen—that help Texas Woman’s thrive.

So on this May Day, please accept my heartfelt thanks for the work you do and the spirit in which you do it. You help this university flourish, and I am deeply grateful for each of you.

With a pioneering spirit,

Carine M. Feyten, Ph.D.
Chancellor and President
