Health Sciences Center Update
Dear Texas Woman’s Community,
Many of you have already seen the alerts or witnessed the emergency response earlier today at our new Health Sciences Center. I want to reassure you that the building has been officially cleared by the fire department, and our next step is to assess the damage and determine a path forward.
The fire, which was contained to the roof and attic of the southwest section of the complex, was reported shortly after 9 a.m. and extinguished just after 11 a.m. The response was swift and extraordinary. Fire and emergency crews from Denton and at least four neighboring communities worked seamlessly to ensure the safety of those in and around the building. Several firefighters were overcome by the heat and required medical attention. We are deeply grateful to these brave and selfless individuals whose quick action protected both people and property.
While the full extent of the damage is still being evaluated, our goal is to make the necessary repairs as quickly as possible to limit any disruption to academic operations.
As always, we will face this challenge with resilience and resolve—together.
We’ll keep you informed as we learn more.
With a pioneering spirit,
Carine M. Feyten, Ph.D.
Chancellor and President
