Academic Advising Awards

Every year we recognize outstanding advisors of undergraduate students with TWU’s Academic Advising awards.

All recipients are honored at the Advisor Awards Ceremony during an Advisor Professional Development event each year.

What makes outstanding academic advisors?

Outstanding advisors will:

  • Demonstrate a caring, helpful attitude toward students
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills
  • Provide accurate information regarding university academic requirements
  • Make themselves available and accessible to students, faculty, and staff
  • Make appropriate referrals when necessary
  • Participate in advisor development programs
  • Engage in practices that promote and support developmental advising
  • Have knowledge of Texas Woman’s University regulations, policies and procedures

Award categories

New Advisor of the Year

This award is presented to Advisors that:

  • Have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students
  • Spend at least 50% of their time on direct delivery of advising to undergraduate students
  • Have served as a professional advisor for a period of 3 or fewer years at TWU

Advisor of the Year

This award is presented to Advisors that:

  • Have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students
  • Spend at least 50% of their time on direct delivery of advising to undergraduate students
  • Have served as a professional advisor for at least 3 years (36 months) at TWU

Faculty Advisor of the Year

This award is presented to Advisors that:

  • Have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students
  • Are full-time faculty members at TWU who spend a portion of their time advising/mentoring undergraduate students

Student’s Choice

This award is presented to Advisors that:

  • Have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students
  • Are staff or faculty members at TWU who advise/mentor undergraduate students

Students can nominate an undergraduate advisor they feel possess these qualities.
