Our Systemness

Leverage the power of our systemness to serve our communities better

Texas Woman’s University is the only university system in the United States with a focus on women’s education. This gives us an opportunity to explore the unique contributions that TWU’s three campuses can make within the communities they serve, and for each campus to develop a distinct mission in teaching, research, and community outreach.

In five years, we will have established three individual campuses that are part of a unified system, each of which will have a local leadership team that will focus on the needs of each campus to improve philanthropy, facilities, student enrollment, alumni engagement, translational research, and community partnerships.

Strategies

Success Measures

During the Summer of 2023, the Systemness Committee was formed to outline measures of success for TWU's transformation into a three-campus system. The committee identified four goals for the first phase of the process.

  1. Hire a Campus President for both the Houston and Dallas campuses.
  2. Track the increase in research and other external funding by campus.
  3. Provide a framework for designing an organizational structure and strategic plan.
  4. Create a plan to prepare for the potential effects of having independent campuses on individual program accreditation.

Campus Presidents

We are delighted to announce that Monica Christopher began her role as President of the Dallas Campus on February 1st, 2024. We are excited to see her take the lead and provide direction. A search is underway for an innovative, experienced leader to serve as the inaugural Houston Campus President.

Campus Funding & Structural Reviews

Progress has begun toward tracking increased research and other external funding by campus. Current data indicates that funding has increased at each of the three campuses since 2021. An organizational structure review of the Dallas campus is underway, with the Houston Campus President meeting with cabinet members, administrators, faculty, and staff in Dallas. A strategic plan, developed in collaboration with all stakeholders, is necessary before finalizing structural changes. The campus Presidents will need to meet with academic leadership to prepare for the potential effects of a three-independent-campus TWU system on program accreditation.

Throughout the 2023-2024 academic year, we have achieved several important milestones. However, we understand that transforming TWU into a system will not happen overnight. This journey will take time and will be accomplished in phases. As we progress through each phase, we will gather feedback and input from all stakeholders.
