Pioneer Welcome Week a success
DENTON – With events ranging from a block party to an ice cream social — splashed with moving into residence halls, community volunteer service and First-year Student Commencement —Texas Woman’s University’s annual welcome week for new and returning students was a smashing success.
Over the weekend, 187 students volunteered for the TWU Pioneer Camp Service Projects. These students traveled to the Dallas Goodwill, made swab kits for “Be The Match,” created cards for Meals On Wheels and cleaning up Denton roads.
Each year the university hosts events and activities to show our excitement in welcoming returning students and our newest Pioneers to campus.
Of the more than 1,200 new first-year students enrolled for the Fall 2015 semester:
• 37 are valedictorians and 30 are salutatorians;
• 18 percent are in the top 10 percent of their high school graduating class;
• 47 percent are in the top 25 percent of their high school graduating class; and
• 104 are Honors Scholars.
