TWU libraries to host forum


DENTON/DALLAS/HOUSTON— The Texas Woman’s University libraries will host “Know Your Rights: Copyright, Authors’ Rights, Intellectual Property and Emerging Intersection with Institutional Repositories” Sept. 22-23. The forum will take place each day in room 301 of the Administration Conference Tower (ACT) on the Denton campus, with videoconferencing to room 1010 of the TWU T. Boone Pickens Institute of Health Sciences-Dallas Center and room 2120 of the TWU Institute of Health Sciences-Houston Center. For maps of each campus, visit

The Monday, Sept. 22 session will begin at 6:15 p.m. with Nick Shockey, director of programs and engagement for the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) and founding director of the Right to Research Coalition (R2RC). Mr. Shockey will present “Tired of Gouging? Strategies for Removing Financial Barriers to Information.”

The Tuesday, Sept. 23 session begins at 9 a.m. with Diane J. Graves, assistant vice president for information resources and university librarian/professor at Trinity University in San Antonio. Her presentation is titled “Faculty Open Access Policies: Public Missions, Public Research, Public Good.”

Ms. Graves’ presentation will be followed by “Make Two Fair Uses and Call Creative Commons in the Morning” with Gretchen McCord, an Austin-based attorney, educator and author specializing in copyright law and intellectual property.
