Endeavor Energy Resources to cap gas well on TWU campus

DENTON— Endeavor Energy Resources of Midland has informed Texas Woman’s University that it will cap an unproductive natural gas well located on the TWU golf course, university officials said.

The company will fence off approximately 1.75 acres north of the golf course clubhouse and east of the TWU Facilities Management and Construction building. The company expects the capping of the well to begin soon and be completed before TWU classes begin on Monday, Aug. 25.

The golf course will remain open during the process. Joe Standridge, TWU associate vice president of facilities management and construction, said university personnel will monitor the company’s activities and, while emergency procedures are in place, any risk is minimal.

“Our offices are right outside the well, and we’re not concerned,” he said.

Mr. Standridge said the work will be done according to state environmental standards. The company will pipe the gas from the well into an incinerator, resulting in fewer emissions. Water produced from the procedure will be pumped into a storage tank. After the gas is removed, the company will plug the well with concrete.

Endeavor Energy Resources drilled the gas well on TWU property in 2004.
