TWU Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble plan concert Oct. 15


DENTON — The Texas Woman’s University Wind Symphony and the TWU Jazz Ensemble will present the Texas premier of Benjamin D. Taylor’s “Trailing Clouds of Glory” in concert Tuesday, Oct. 15. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Margo Jones Performance Hall, located at Pioneer Circle and Oakland Street on TWU’s Denton campus. Tickets are $5 at the door. TWU joined a consortium of universities from across the United States in commissioning Mr. Taylor’s new, three-movement work for winds and percussion. Other music to be performed includes Franz von Suppe’s “Light Cavalry Overture,” John Phillip Sousa’s “Washington Post March” and Julie Giroux’s “One Life Beautiful.”

The TWU Jazz Ensemble will feature soloists Matt Sawyer on tenor saxophone and Joanna Ceja with vocals.

Dr. Russell Pettitt, TWU director of bands, conducts the Wind Symphony. Mr. Jesse Woolery directs the Jazz Ensemble.
