TWU to host 19th Annual Monster Flute Choir Concert


DENTON — Just in time for Halloween – 30 flutists from Texas Woman’s University and Brookhaven College unite for the 19th annual Monster Flute Choir Concert.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30 in the Margo Jones Performance Hall, located at Pioneer Circle and Oakland Avenue on TWU’s Denton campus. Admission is free, and audience members are encouraged to attend in costume. For more information, call (940) 898-2500.

This year’s concert is part of the TWU College of Arts and Sciences Global Connections Month. Featured works include “Karpaty: Carpathian Folk Song Fantasy,” a new composition by Peter Senchuk; arrangements of two compositions by famed French composer Claude Debussy; and “The Fifth Universal Principle of Alignment” by David Gunn, winner of the inaugural National Flute Association Flute Choir Composition Competition.

The TWU and Brookhaven flute choirs are under the direction of Dr. Pamela Youngblood, TWU professor of music and chair of the TWU Department of Music and Drama.
