DENTON — The Texas Woman’s University Concert Choir has been selected to perform at the 2012 Southwestern American Choral Directors Conference, scheduled Feb. 29-March 3 in Dallas. The choir will preview its performance during a special presentation Friday, Feb. 24 on the TWU Denton campus.

The local concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Margo Jones Performance Hall. The TWU choir will be joined by Highland Village’s Briarhill Middle School choir, which also was invited to the conference. Admission is $5. Tickets will be sold at the door. For more information, call (940) 898-2500.

The TWU Concert Choir was one of seven university ensembles chosen from more than 80 applicants to perform at the 2012 Southwestern American Choral Directors Association (SWACDA) Conference. The TWU choir will perform at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 1 in the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe, located in the Downtown Dallas Arts District.

“Concert Choir is positioned to be a premier women’s ensemble in the state and country,” said Dr. Joni Jensen, TWU associate professor of music and director of the TWU Concert Choir. “We have undergone intense preparation for this event, as our audience will be full of professional musicians. This performance puts TWU choral music back on the map and in the eyes and ears of leaders in our field.”
