TRiO Student Support Services

TWU students currently studying for their bachelor’s degrees may qualify for specialized academic and support services through TWU’s TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Programs.

SSS programs are dedicated to increasing the retention and graduation rates for low income, first-generation, and/or students with documented disabilities. 

TRIO SSS STEM-H provides guidance and individualized support specifically for students majoring in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and health bachelor degrees through a variety of programs and services.

TRiO SSS Classic connects with students to assist them in meeting their educational and post-graduate goals. Students are also provided with tools to explore in-demand jobs, graduate school programs and increase their financial literacy.

Highlights

Trio SSS program participants visiting Alcon

Alcon:
Fall 2021, SSS program participants visited Alcon and received advice from first-generation college graduates who are now leaders within the company. In spring 2022, Alcon staff visited TWU and provided guidance to participants on how to enter the workforce as first-generation students.

SXSW 2022:
SSS program participants attended the SXSW Conference where they heard from industry leaders in health, housing, DEI. They also attended sessions featuring US Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh, Lizzo, Chrissy Teigen, and more!

 

 

 

Makayla Hughes

Makayla Hughes:
Hughes, part of the SSS Classic program, was selected for a summer internship with the U.S. Department of Energy at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. The internship is part of the National Nuclear Administration Minority Serving Institutions Internship Program.

 

 

 

The Texas Woman's University TRiO Student Support Services Classic and STEM-H Programs are funded entirely by the U.S. Department of Education in the amount of $261,888 each annually from 2020-2025.
